My book covers are here. I need you to vote on the one you like best!

Please state your age or if you asked your kid what they liked best and tell me their age. The target market for this book is females/males ages 14 - 23. Thanks! Please leave a comment. Your input will help me decide which cover to go with. Then I will tweak the details. Thanks!

darn i missed the cutoff target age by about 4 months! lol anywho i'm 24 and i like #1 the best. it looks more like the other YA books that are out there, understated and not really drawing attention, even the secular YA books like Gossip Girl or the Clique sort of look like this one. Just my two cents :)

Hey Michelle -

I'm 25, and my preference is the middle one. I know they always tell you not to judge a book by its cover, but we all do. And that one stands out the most, and looks the most fun. I'd be more likely to pick that one off the shelf than the other two.

Hi, I'm sixteen, and I liked the second cover

The one with the girl by herself makes me think the book's an autobiography.

It might be too late for this..I like the guys on the cover, but they lookl so much older than the girl---unless they're supposed to?

Rel said...

I'm with Christa on the age of the guys! I think if you want boys to pick it up at all it needs the fellas on it and the pink title wouldn't appeal so No.1 it is for me :)

Rel said...

Oh, not telling you my age - LOL!! Let's just say I am over the age of the targeted market - hehe!!!

Okay, here is the deal, the girl and the guy in front are both 19, just like in the book. The guy in the middle is 23, and so is the guy in the book. :) Cool, huh, that I got models the same age as the characters. :P

Hi Michelle,

I'm definately not your demographic, but I like # 3 best.

Good luck choosing one.

Thanks for having Searching for Spice on your Shelfari!!

After reading the ages of the others who have posted I feel like a dinosaur. I'm 39 and I prefer the middle cover. It's cool and hip looking to his old geezer; and while I also like the third cover's overall appearance, it's more plain and less eye-catching than the second.

Good luck with your choices!

I like number one - in case you care!

Because I've read this story, cover number one is more true to the story. Cover two is kind of chic-litty. And that story is definitely not a chic-lit. Unless you've changed it since I've read it. So, number one gets my vote.

I am quite partial to the first one. Thanks for giving me a chance to vote. You must be very excited! Best wishes to you! Cindi

I like #1... #2 is too whimsical... #3 with just a girl on the cover won't grab young girls attention.

Hi Michelle,
I like the second one. It seems more hip looking.

I'm 23 and I like the first one best so does my 21 year old sister.
My 16 year old sis likes the 2nd one best though.
I really look forward to reading your book!

Lianne Lopes said...

well, I couldn't figure out how to vote for the book cover, but I'll leave you this comment. My 15 year old daughter chose the first one. She did NOT like the second one at all. Said it looked too much like a magazine, and "that's just not cool for a book." Her words.

Okay, I'm way over the age of the targeted market, but I gotta say -- without having read anyone else's votes -- that the middle one catches the eye! Of the two photos I like this one better than the one of just the girl. Also, I love the bold, colorful lettering in the title. The others are too subtle, and I think a young person will simply be more drawn to the "glitzier" look. That's my two-cents. Now I'm gonna go see how everyone else voted. I wonder if I'm in the minority. If I am, then you'll know it's because I'm going to be 60! hahaha.

Hugs,
Shar

Okay, now that I've read everyone's votes and comments I'm going to say number 1 OR number 2. Someone had a point -- if you want to target guys in your reading audience as well as girls, then number 2 wouldn't work as effectively.

More hugs...
Shar

To be honest, I don't really like any of them. They all look a little like the cover on a Sunday school quarterly, but if I only have these three to choose from I would say #2. It catches the eye more than the others.

I'll be 24 in March. I prefer the first cover. The second is a little too cutesy for an edgy YA novel, in my opinion, though its not bad by any means. The third one is great, but like someone else mentioned - might give the idea its more of an autobiography. However, its a great cover. Still my vote is Cover #1! Looks great - especially your name on the front! WOOHOO!!!

Georgiana Daniels said...

My 16-year-old daughter likes the first one, and so do I. The 2nd one looks like a lit--of course, I'm old, so what do I know =P

Hi Michelle,

I'm really old. Almost 42, but for YA, I'd say #2.

Blessings,

Rhonda

ok im not in the age either but number one is the one i would go for

Dona Watson said...

I would vote for the first one. I think it has the best balance and sounds like it would match the content best.

Pastor Berlee said...

I'm a young adult cover artist. I would say #1 or #2, definitely not #3. I'm partial to #2, but my 11 year old son said #1 without a doubt.

I vote for Number 2. But I can't imagine a kid 14 and a man of 23 liking the same book!! But that's just my opinion : )

I like the second one, but I’m older than dirt.

However, I’d be happy to get the opinion of my teenage horde at youth group tomorrow night. :)

AngBreidenbach said...

Well, I am going to vote, but as the mom of these 3 models (the two boys are mine and the young lady is my daughter-in-law) I don't think my vote counts. :-D

But I think I like the first cover best. I agree about it matching the content better. I think maybe bumping up the color on the title on number 1 would be a winner.

Only 43...but still around a ton of young people!

My exchange son is 17 and likes the 3rd one best. But if he had to choose for the front cover, he would choose #1.

Annette M. Irby said...

Hey Michelle,

Definitely the first one and I'm beyond the cut off age. :)

Nancy Toback said...

Wow, nice covers, Michelle! I like #1 best, but I think a color should be used for the title. The white seems to disappear...or maybe it just doesn't stand out enough? (You know my age already.)

l am 41 going on 14... l say number 2... l will ask Nat to look also ok? Percy

Hannah said...

i'm 23 Michelle, I think the first cover is the most intriguing.

let me say that #2 looks like its geared towards the age group you are aiming at... l still like 2 the best even after reading all the posts... Percy

I'm way over the age, but I like the first one the best. I hang around a lot of teenagers, and a couple of the ones I know prefer the first one as well. The second one gets their attention, but not in a way that they want to buy it. All agree that the three people on the front are very good-looking and thus attract attention.

Trish Perry said...

Hey, Michelle--I'm late getting on the bandwagon and late, age-wise. When I thought the book was probably chick lit, I went for the second. But I would definitely go for the first, if the book is edgy (and I know you, girl--it's bound to be edgy). The third looks like a publicity shot to me. I like the suggestion someone had of putting color in the title on #1.

Congrats again, Michelle!

I'm WAY out of the age market--lol! However, for other reasons I've seen stated here, like what both guys and girls might be willing to pick up and read, I'll cast my vote for #1.

Tamara Leigh said...

Uh...early forties :) Though I like the look of the second cover--kind of fun--it doesn't go with the cover model's expression. So, I vote for cover #1.

my 16 yo son and 14 yo daughter picked the first one!

Okay, I'm definitely not a teenager or in my 20's and I realize my answer doesn't agree with most, but I prefer #3 far more than the other 2. She looks so sad or mad in the first 2 and the guys look like geeks. (sorry)

Sis , the first one is the only one that fits.

PS I am glad you had a good time with dad.

Danielle Douglas said...

while I'm definitely outside of the target age group here, I think the first book has the most promise of these three. It's color schemes are more contemporary and fit a wider age group.

The second one to me is too young. While the 14-16 contingent may read it I doubt you'd find the older segment of your target group reading it...and the third cover looks too much like a biography or autobiography.

LaShaunda said...

I like one and two.

This is exciting. Most authors don't get to choose your cover.

Anonymous said...

i like the first one best - the third one is my runner-up, but it seems ironic that the title is "it's not all about me" though that picture is all about one girl. ha ha! so, i choose number one.

DeAnna Julie Dodson said...

I'm out of your age range, too, but I like #3 the best.

#1 is too plain. #2 is too cutesy. It looks more like a comedy cover, and I know that's not what this book is about.

I'd pick #3, though I wish it had more colors in it than just the pink and brown.

Daniel said...

Middle one looks most fun to me (gives a rather somber, tense scene a touch of irony and self-effacing), but if there is any way the pink could be turned to green, that would be more appealing to a male (at least, this male.)

However, I'm really not sure how many men, of any age, will give this book a second thought. Love triangle on cover = "girl book."

I'm not saying that is a bad thing, just a market thing.

PatriciaW said...

Hi Michelle, I'm in my 40's. Hope that doesn't disqualify me. My 12 yo wouldn't have an opinion.

I like #1 because it looks edgier and you're the edgy inspirational fiction lady.

Anonymous said...

My daughter, 16, voted #1 within 10 seconds of seeing it. I like the brighter colors of #2, but it may be mistaken for a fun and witty read even though the models look sooo serious. Attractive, but serious. The mom that wrote in must be so proud them.

Stephanie Morrill said...

I'm 24 and agree with everything Deborah said; if you're going for the Gossip Girl crowd, I think number one is the best choice.

Mimi N said...

Hi Michelle, I asked my 16 yr old and she liked the 1st cover. I plan on asking my 14 yr old tomorrow. As an old chic, I liked #1 as well. The colors and style are what's being used today. People must be getting their inspiration from the scrapbooking world! Works for me! Blessing on finding the right cover.

Michelle,
I am 35, but I teach 14 year olds, so I like to think I can guess which one they'd pick. I lean strongly toward #1. I think it causes questions the reader will want to open the cover to answer!

My two cents~
