Now I'm giving away How Do I Love Thee by Nancy Moser

To enter the contest to win this book simply post a comment about poetry. Do you like it? Do you hate it? Do you have a favorite poet? I will pick a winner next Sunday, July 19th. Thanks everyone for your creative answers every week!

I'll go first. I do like poetry, but not a lot. If it's well done and emotion-packed then, yeah, I'd love it. I don't find many poems like that. However, I am embarrassed to say that I've never read any poetry by Elizabeth Barret Browning (at least that I'm aware of.) So this book should make me more cultured, yes?

About the book:

The year is 1845. Elizabeth Barrett is a published poet—and a virtual prisoner in her own home. Blind family loyalty ties her to a tyrannical father who forbids any of his children to marry. She has resigned herself to simply existing. That is, until the letter arrives...

"I love your verses with all my heart," writes Robert Browning, an admiring fellow poet. And as friendly correspondence gives way to something more, Elizabeth discovers that Robert's love is not for her words alone. Could it be that God might grant her more than mere existence? And can she risk defying her father in pursuit of true happiness?

My thoughts:

Ooh la la. I will be reading the book this week or next. I will say for certain that if it's anything like Mozart's Sister then it will be AMAZING!

I don't really like poetry, but I have read some of Elizabeth Barrett Browning's poetry in college and I liked it. I love the story behind her too, it just makes it all the more interesting! :)

Sounds like a good book! I enjoy poetry for the wonderful imagery and the masterful way it can be written. Some favorites are Wordsworth, Shakespeare (for the sonnets), and Poe because it's so edgy. Thanks!

I have read some of her poetry in high school/college, but don't remember it. I like some poetry, but not a lot of it. Good ones really move me. I've written about 6-8 of them in the past few years.
Please enter me in this contest.
Thanks.

I'm not much of a poetry reader, mostly because I can't wrap my brain around it, especially the old stuff. But, I do like a great romance! Please enter me to win Nancy's book. :)

Funny this one is about poetry and poets. I happen to be one, so yes I love it! My favorite poet is Maya Angelou... only as its inappropriate to pick yourself.

Thank you for the entry
I'll say it again
I may be one person
Who'd love to win
I know there are others
Who'd enjoy it too
But then this poet
Would be left blue.

I love poetry including Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Shakespeare's Sonnets, the Psalms, and Haiku. There are more poets to list as my taste for poetry is broad and varied.

I would like to know more about Elizabeth Barrett Browning and her life.

I do like some poetry, including Browning's, but my all time favorite is my grandmother. Unfortunately she was never published in her lifetime, but I hope to see her published in my lifetime at least.

You've never read Elizabeth Barrett Browning??? GASP! I love her poetry. I also love children's poetry. When I was teaching, my all time favorite was Shel Silverstein. Those poems are so quirky & fun!

I like poetry. I'm not a fanatic and I don't think I have any particular person that I love. But I did like Shel Silverstein as a kid! Thanks for the chance to win!

I love poetry, from Robert Frost to Sylvia Plath and Anne Sexton. I love Edna St Vincent Millay and of course EBB. I usually try to read biographies of poets, it helps me understand their work better

I'm not a big fan of poetry, with the exception of ballads. I had to memorize "If" by Rudyard Kipling while in college and still love it. Having to write original poetry in literature class brings back horrible memories, though.

Moser's whole series is on my reading list, so I would love to win this one. Thank you for the giveaway.

I'm not a big fan of poetry, and I was unfortunately forced to read some in college. I have read some poetry by Elizabeth Barrett Browning, with my favorite one being the same title as the book.

I love Nancy Moser! I wish I did have a taste for poetry but I really don't. The funny thing is that as a teenager I used to write poetry all the time.... on relationships, heartache, anger.... you name it, I put it to poetry.

I actually had forgotten about that until now.... I still have the books...

some poetry absolutely moves me to tears. some is so dull i fall asleep. of course, i love the poetic books of the bible...they speak to me. i'm not a big fan of rhyme. i think it's because of the contrived feel i get when i've tried to write rhyme myself. it's forced. this book sounds great...i almost picked it up in the book store the other day!
