Now I'm giving away How Sweet It Is by Alice J. Wisler

To enter the contest to win this book simply post a comment about whether or not you've ever taught school (regular or Sunday Schoo) and if you have a favorite age group of kids to teach. If neither of those apply, then post a comment about whether you like to cook, and if so, what is your favorite dish to prepare. I'll start. I've been a sub for high school kids, worked as a Sunday school teacher for little kids, and my favorite thing to cook is lasagna. In fact, one is baking in the oven right now. :) I will pick a winner next Sunday, June 28th. Don't forget to leave me a way to contact you if you win! Have a great week.

About the book:

Deena Livingston leaves behind a broken romance and her chef job in Atlanta to spend time at her grandfather's cabin in the mountains of North Carolina. But her grandfather has an odd request: he wants Deena to teach cooking classes to the ragtag group of middle-schoolers who attend the local afterschool program, The Center. Reluctantly, Deena agrees, but how is she supposed to convince these kids that cooking at home is better than eating at McDonalds? And after all she went through in Atlanta, why is she attracted to Zack, the social worker at The Center? Can a Dr. Seuss-quoting plumber, a curly-haired basketball player, and a group of middle-schoolers change Deena's outlook on life?

My thoughts:

I read Alice's first book and I liked her quirky characters. This book sounds interesting, too. I haven't started reading it yet. I'll post a review when I do.

I once taught sunday school to pre-teens and it wasn't good because I couldn't get any of them to talk. Definitely not my favorite age group!! I much prefer the little kids.

Thanks,
Jenn

I've taught Sunday School, but it was years and years ago when my own children were little (the youngest is 25 now). My favorite food to cook is probably meatloaf because everyone loves it and I enjoy watching them gobble it down!

I am a homeschool teacher. We've been homeschooling in our family since 1989. I started with my oldest child, she is now 26 years old. My youngest is three years old.

I have taught Sunday School classes and VBS classes too.

I have done quite a bit of substituting at the Christian school where my sisters and I all graduated. I substituted at all levels at various times. My favorite group was probably 3/4 or 5/6 grades. The 5/6 graders are starting to feel grown up so try to act that way half of the time and the other half of the time they are still acting younger. Their boyfriend/girlfriend issues are "so serious"! It's quite funny!

I've always enjoyed making homemade pizzas, they're so delicious! I would love to learn how to toss the dough like the proffesionals do, but that may be a dream lol!

I have not been a teacher, but was an assistant in Sunday school as a child. Also I love to cook, (and am pretty good at it.) I love to cook various types of risotto, or Indian food.

Thank you for the entry.

I have taught Sunday School, Childrens Church, Missionettes, and Royal Rangers for 42 years and still doing it. I have taught from a wheelchair after an accident and surgeries, using a walker, cane whatever because it is my calling.
I love to cook. I love friend chicken and lasagne as those are my youngest daughter's two favorites.
I have not heard of this author and would love to win her book.

I've been looking forward to this book. Thanks for the chance to win.

I am nursery director at our church, but have also done some teaching from that age on up to youth group. I enjoy being with and hugging on those sweet little babies the most. :)

I'm not much of a cook - but thankfully my hubby is. Quick and easy stuff is more my forté.

I've taught 8th grade boys in Sunday School and do not recommend this group! LOL! Seriously, they were great kids and many of them are now leaders in the church. I also teach private piano, which is very rewarding when a student is talented and hard-working.

I've been watching this book and definitely want to read it. Thank you for the giveaway.

I taught 2nd grade in Sunday school and I also taught the 4 and 5 yr olds. From the 2nd graders I did found out everything about everyone's families (even tho I didn't ask) LOL; but the little guy's minds are so willing to learn and listen because I taught in storybook fashion with visuals. And they made their own papers to take home about the lesson. Loved it!
Please enter me in the contest! Thanks!

This sounds like an interesting story! I have been teaching the kindergarten Sunday School class for 2 years now and really like it. I grew up around kids of all ages and have worked with several age groups. Each stage has their own challenges and joys and I love every stage between newborn and age 12. Teenagers are a bit of a challenge for me. :-)

I've never actually "taught" a class, but I did help out at the Christian School I attended. I filled in as somewhat of a Teacher's Aide (I guess) with grades 9-12 for about 3-4 months. I was only 18 at the time, and decided very quickly that it was not something I wanted to pursue!

My favorite food to prepare is a Chili-Cheese Dip recipe my husband and I came up with ~ it's really good.

I've never read any of Alice's books, so I'd love a chance to give this one a try ~ it sounds great!

Thank you,

Lori S.

I have taught at my local co-op that my siblings go to. For the school year I taught History, with the help of a friend of mine, as well as sign language. I really enjoy working with younger kids! They are so precious!

Hello! Actually, I have done both.
For five years, I worked as a teaching assistant in a LD/BD
classrooms! The grade ranged from
2nd, fourth and fifth and junior
high. I loved it!
Then, I taught fourth grade Sunday
School when I was in high school.
I also enjoyed it very much!
A few years ago, I taught eighth grade Sunday School and loved the
challenge of keeping them interested! Bible School is another way I enjoy working with kids and teaching. Many thanks, Cindi

What an interesting subject for a book! I have never taught, but of course I "teach" my own children here at home all the time. And we love especially to bake together. My favorite thing to make will probably always be homemade toll house cookies!
