Synopsis

#1 New York Times bestseller Nicholas Sparks turns his unrivaled talents to a new tale about love found and lost, and the choices we hope we'll never have to make.

Travis Parker has everything a man could want: a good job, loyal friends, even a waterfront home in small-town North Carolina. In full pursuit of the good life-- boating, swimming, and regular barbecues with his good-natured buddies--he holds the vague conviction that a serious relationship with a woman would only cramp his style. That is, until Gabby Holland moves in next door. Despite his attempts to be neighborly, the appealing redhead seems to have a chip on her shoulder about him . . . and the presence of her longtime boyfriend doesn't help. Despite himself, Travis can't stop trying to ingratiate himself with his new neighbor, and his persistent efforts lead them both to the doorstep of a journey that neither could have foreseen. Spanning the eventful years of young love, marriage and family, The Choice ultimately confronts us with the most heart wrenching question of all: how far would you go to keep the hope of love alive?

My thoughts:

I was supposed to get this book to review from the Hatchette publicist but for whatever reason it never arrived. However, it does sound like a real heart-tugging, tear-jerker just based on reviews I read and the description. I think I'd like it if I had a chance to read it. :)

I think life is full of really hard choices. It's hard to just pick one!!! LOL. I met my hubby online, so it was a huge choice when we finally made the leap to meet. I then moved half way across the country at the age of 18 to marry him. That was a hard choice. There are numerous others, but I won't write a novel on your comments:-)

I too met my husband on line, in fact I picked him up......and then when we met in person there really was no choice, I knew. Tough change thou has been living in the country vs the city, so that in a way was a choice....a choice that challenges me daily.
Thanks, I love Nick's books!

One really hard choice I had to make was choosing to live with either my mom or my dad when they divorced (I was 16 then) it was a really hard choice for me because I love both my parents very much, but I knew whom ever I chose the other would be hurt.

Hard choice:
After belonging to what some call a cult for 12 years I decided to return to the faith of my youth. Hard because I knew my Mom would be thinking "I told you so."

I returned because of my husband's faithfulness.

My husband and I were at the yahoo-we're-out-of-here-baby! stage of our lives when our daughter-in-law passed away and we decided to take her 3 kids (boys, ages 1, 2, and 4) to raise. Difficult? Yes and no. Yes, we didn't want to start over. But...no, because we loved them so much.

Onoe of the hardest choices my husband and I had to make was to leave our church that we were pastoring (been there 10 years) to start a new church. The road has been difficult and we are now making the hard choice to sell our home and downsize to help make ends meet. God is faithful and there is joy in the journey. :)

The hardest choice I have every made was to let my husband raise our two sons, with the help of his parents after our divorce, when they were 3 and 5... thankful that I had a mother in law that made sure I was always kept in the loop and could see them any time I wanted... so thankful that 30 years later they still have a special place in their hearts for their mother....

As for my favorite Nicholas Sparks novel, it's hard to choose, especially between "The Wedding" and "Dear John"...

Thanks for another opportunity to be included in this drawing....

One of my hardest choices was one of forgiveness. To keep with the theme of the book and the question, "How far would you go to keep love alive?", I find one of the most difficult choices I've had to makes to forgiving my husband for a betrayal in our marriage. It wasn't a typical betrayal but one I found that broke my heart and robbed me of the passion I had for our relationship. In the end, however, I love him. The question of forgiveness seemed to pop up in our relationship when I seem to have the least energy to deal with it, but ultimately making the choice to forgive is well worth it.

Thanks for considering me in the drawing!

Oh, I'd love to win, read and pass this book on!

The hardest choice I had to make, happened to also be the easiest choice (I know, that's a bit convaluted)

My step daughter's mother committed suicide and I had to choose to turn off the machine to let her pass. It was difficult because you never want to give up hope, but it was easy, because it was what she wanted and it would end her pain.

Thanks...whoa, I haven't thought about that for a while

I can't say I've read any of Nicholas Sparks' novels however, I'd love to win this one.

We all have to make choices everyday. I think my hardest choice on a daily basis is what to make for our main meal. I hate the question: What's for dinner.

The hardest choice I ever had to make was whether I should move to Utah with my mother or stay and live with my boyfriend. It was so hard to choose between the two and then to leave my mother.

One of the biggest choices I have made in my life is choosing to go on the four-month Junior Term Abroad in France. I had the option of staying if I wanted to and honestly, I really wanted to stay. I wanted to get involved in school organizations and events and I wanted to bond with my friends, however, I couldn't pass up on the opportunity. I took the leap and now I'm back in the country and I don't regret any decision that I made before. :)

I have been into a lot situations in life where I need to make a choice. It was hard to share this directly; though, I can say that it made me stick to my decisions no matter what my choice had been. It is not always making a right choice, but trying to cope up if I failed to pick the right one. Making choices continues to make me strong.

It would really be great to have my own Nicholas Sparks book. My favorite is The Notebook, which was just borrowed from a friend. Hopefully, I'll get a chance this time.

Thank you for this giveaway!

Choosing alone a degree to take on is not an easy choice. I chose to take up Business Management when I entered college but then, found no satisfaction-as if something was missing.... And 2 years later in my college yrs, Grandpa past away.. it was the worst year for me.. and somehow I woke up and realized Grandpa was telling me something and guiding me to do the hardest choice in my life... I dropped my business course (where i already spent my 3yrs) and shifted to medicine right away. It was later that i knew from my mom that my grandpa's dream was to have a doctor in his family... and i haven't regretted this big leap i've did at all..

to borrow one line from The Fray song, 'Sometimes the hardest thing and the right thing are the same.'

I chose to leave my first love because I think that would be the best for both of us. And though it still hurts until now, I always hold on to our future that the best thing will happen to both of our lives if we're living without each other.

This season of hearts, it still hurts. i never got the chance to love others because what I have in my heart was my first love.

I know I lost her. But what can I do but to give her the freedom that she wanted.

I love her, and I will always love her!

Oh choices are always kind of hard. Like what will I cook for dinner speghetti or chicken but you weren't just asking about choices but hard choices. I guess the hardest choice I have is the one I am facing now. Do I go back to work full time as a teacher or continue to be a SAHM and write. You see one actually will pull in some income and well the other sees like an unattainable dream.

I once had the difficult choice of choosing between holding on to someone who was reliable, someone I already knew like the palm of my hand (and vice-versa) and someone entirely new and unpredictable. It was like falling off a cliff without not knowing if God's angels will be there in time to catch me. Taking a strong dose of courage and prayer, I embraced change and conquered my fear...I chose the latter.

I'm glad that I did it, as it was my first experience with risk. Although it didn't work out in the long run, what's important is that I learned the merits of risk-taking and change, while having gotten to know a kindred soul in the process.

Now, I'm at a crossroad similar to where Donna is in: am I supposed to hold on to a job which has become a perennial source of boredom and mediocrity, or go freelance and do what I actually love doing? I am also thinking about getting a job overseas with a significantly higher salary.

I'm still at the crossroads and at a loss at which direction to take. The economic crunch that we're experiencing doesn't help much either. I hope that, in due time, I'd finally be able to make a step to a more definitive future....

I am currently in the middle of what feels like the hardest choice ever, and i am sure someday i will look back and know it wasn't but matters of the heart always feel that way. And because I don't want to go in to more details my favorite Sparks book is Message In A Bottle. But I love all his books, sometimes I read them when I need a good cry.

my hardest choice was to make a choice whether i should give up hope on achieving my dreams to study the course of my choice abroad when my family members disapproved of me getting a scholarship to achieve my dreams just because they think i don't deserve to be awarded when i didn't get good grades for my national exam. my family members even commented that the scholarship was a scam and i'm not even worthed to be invested educationally because i was stupid.

but i made a choice of not wanting to live a regretful life, i chose to fight for approval to accept the scholarship and not giving up on myself [in terms of talent and skill] just because the people that i care the most don't have faith in me.

The hardest choice I have ever had to make was when my youngest son was only a few months old and was put in the hosital. I had to make the hard decision to let my 1 1/2 yr. old son go stay with my parents in Florida for a while. Not only was I going to be at the hospital 99.9% of the time, but it was in another city so it would have been too hard on both of us if he had stayed with me. It was the first time we were apart and I missed him so much.

My favorite Sparks book is "The Notebook".

Hi! I'd love to have this book. I'd been wanting to read Nicholas Spark novels but I can't find the time to buy the books.

I really had a hard time making a decision whether to quit applying for this organization and leave my high school best friend alone in the application process or stay but suffer emotionally and mentally. It was a college organization and my best friend and I had this dream that we will be members of this famous organization. But the application process was really tough and our family is suffering from financial constraints so I had to leave my best friend behind. She is a member now of that org while I remain org-less. But, I am very happy with the decision I made and I am just thankful that that decision didn't put an end to our good relationship.

One of the hardest choices I have to make was to keep the baby growing inside me or not. I was graduating from college and have a promising career ahead of me. I know my family who is Muslim would kill me. The news will break a lot of people's hearts and that dream of mine to travel in different places will be very bleak. My boyfriend then was as distraught as I am. I contemplated to die as I thought my life was hopeless. Eight years passed since then and I now having fights whether a triangle is congruent with another triangle with my son. Hahaha. My then boyfriend turned out to be the husband of my dreams. I still like to travel but this time I don't have to do it alone. - ia_adam20@yahoo.com

For me life is full of hard choices. Everyday you have to make tough choice that will have great impact to you on that moment or in the future. The hardest choice I have to make is for me to leave my family behind and be with the man that I want to be with for the rest of my life at an age of 17 years old. I mean, what would be a 17 year old teenager like me know about a life of marriage or even motherhood for that matter. I chose the latter part. Now I don't regret chosing the last one. Right now I am with him with our first daughter Shefren Hermione and with our upcoming second baby. We are living together happy and contented. Me and my husband are working hard for our family and luckily we are surviving without the help of anyone.------------efren_edillojr@yahoo.com

Life has hard edges and there's always a tough choice one have to make in an event. For me, the deepest and hardest choice I've made was when my husband and my father had a deep misunderstanding and it came to the point that my husband has to let me choose if I want to stay with my parents or get away with him...It is very difficult for me because I love my parents and I want them to be with me because they are not getting any younger, I wanna hold and care for them, like seeing them each day. But I have to choose, and I've chosen my husband then....but today, it's all okay, the mess has been solved (the misunderstanding of my husband with my parents) angelswings9921 at yahoo dot com
