Single Sashimi by Camy Tang - blog tour with review.

About the book:

Venus Chau is a high-powered video game developer. Now she might be working for the man she’s always hated … but what if he’s no longer the man she thought she knew? The third book in the Sushi series offers romance with the spice of ginger.

About the author:

Camy Tang grew up in Hawaii and worked for years as a biologist/researcher until she felt God’s call to return to the writing that she had loved as a student. She now writes "romance with a kick of wasabi" and, with her husband, is a staff worker with the youth group at her church. Visit her website at camytang.com.

My review:

For now this will be a mini-one as some things interrupted my reading schedule and I was only able to read the first 11 chapters, however, I will post a full review in this same spot when I finish the story.

I am not one who likes a lot of metaphors and similies and Tang uses them a lot. I find them distracting. The same with strong verbs all the time. The same with overly aggressive and sarcastic heroines. They are found in each book in the series, yet I always end up really liking the story by book's end despite those issues. Camy's writing style is unique and never boring. Her characters do gross things (like throw up), but they are still endearing. She can take someone who starts out with mean thoughts and make you actually like them by the story's end. SO I'm expecting the same thing with this one. She also has fabulous romantic tension, which, of course, I live for. That's a real strength in Camy's novels. This review will be replaced with a full one soon. Peace!

Now I'm giving away a copy of Havah by Tosca Lee!

To enter to win a copy of this amazing book, tell me what intrigues you about it and post a comment. I can tell after only reading the first few chapters that this is going to be on my top fiction list for 2008. The words and concepts are so beautifully written they will take your breath away! I'll pick a winner on Sunday!

About the book:

What was it like to be the first woman on earth, to wake to a brand-new creation---and Adam? Why did she become so beguiled by the serpent? In this lyrical retelling of the biblical narrative, Lee brings Eden to life, revealing the dawn of mankind from Eve's viewpoint! (Contains some mature imagery.)

Blog post - review of INAM

An Irishwoman's Tale by Patti Lacy is up on CFBA with a review posted!

This week, the

Christian Fiction Blog Alliance

is introducing

An Irishwomans' Tale

Kregel Publications (July 8, 2008)

by

Patti Lacy

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Patti Lacy graduated from Baylor University in 1977 with a B.S. in education. She taught at Heartland Community College in Normal, Illinois, until she retired in 2006 to pursue writing full time. She has two grown children with her husband, Alan, and lives in Illinois.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Far away from her Irish home, Mary Freeman begins to adapt to life in Midwest America, but family turmoil and her own haunting memories threaten to ruin her future.

A shattered cup. Cheap tea. Bitter voices asking what's to be done with the "little eejit." Mary, an impetuous Irishwoman, won't face the haunting memories--until her daughter's crisis propels her back to County Clare. There, in a rocky cliffside home, Mary learns from former neighbors why God tore her from Ireland forty-five years earlier. As she begins to glimpse His sovereign plan, Mary is finally able to bury a dysfunctional past and begin to heal. Irish folk songs and sayings add color to the narrative.

My review:

The author weaves an amazing and emotionally engaging tale about a woman's quest to know her "people" from Ireland; to know her blood kin. She never really felt wanted, at least not since she was shipped to America and planted in another family with no explanation as to why she was sent away. I found her internal conflict to be totally believable, and the retelling of her life showed a slow progression of her developing faith that probably follows what most people experience who find Christ in their adult years. I was so drawn into the story and Mary's quest for answers that I kept picking this book up and when I wasn't able to read it I found myself thinking about the story. Well done.

An Irishwoman's Tale was a truly beautiful read for many reasons. I love it when I feel so drawn into a story that I am transported in my mind to a different place. I felt like I was Mary in the book as she relived the memories from her early years through adulthood. I especially loved when she got to the part where she was a wild child in college. What a great portrayal of that era and the lifestyle that went with it. It included very realistic dialogue and situations with men, etc. I loved the honesty in this story. I loved how Mary slowly began to allow people to get close enough for her to love them back. I loved how her early days as a new mother were portrayed. Very gripping and real. Wonderful stuff! I can't say enough good things about this book. At first I wasn't sure if I liked the set up of the story being told to another person, but it all wove together so well in the end that I wouldn't change a thing. Fantastic debut novel!

ABOUT THE BOOK

For the past seven years, Ginger Freeman has had one goal: find Grant Kelley and make him pay for allowing her brother to die. Growing up motherless with a father who leads an outlaw gang, Ginger isn’t exactly peaches and cream. So when she finally tracks down Grant on a wagon train headed west, she figured providence had stepped in and given her the chance she’s been waiting for.

On the wagon train, finally surrounded by a sense of family and under the nurturing eye of Toni Rodde, Ginger begins to lose her rough edges. She’s made friends for the first time and has become part of something bigger than revenge. Not only has her heart softened toward people in general, but God has become a reality she never understood before. And watching Grant doctor the pioneers, she’s realized she can’t just kill him and leave the train without medical care. Putting her anger aside, before long, Ginger’s a functioning part of the group.

But when the outlaw gang, headed by her pa, shows up and infiltrates the wagon train, she is forced to question her decision. Only self-sacrifice and her new relationship with God can make things right. But it might also means she loses everything she’s begun to hold dear.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Five people looking for a reason to keep living are about to find it in the last place they expect... In my usual "big cast" style comes a story of what happens when one man puts his faith on the line and holds up a John 3:16 sign at a sporting event. Roman Paulson's life revolves around his son, Billy, a University of Nebraska football hero with a promising life ahead of him. But when Billy's coach encroaches on Roman's relationship with his son, Roman fears he'll lose Billy forever. Roman isn't the only one whose world turns upside down. He's one of five unsuspecting people whose lives intersect on a bright fall day.

Pics from Hastings Entertainment book signing today.

Just to summarize, I had a great day! I sold twelve copies and a bunch of people brought in books they had already purchased, about eight or nine copies, so in all I autographed over twenty books. Not everyone wants a picture up, so these are the brave ones shown below.

My first customer today. What a great guy!

She had the right idea! Autographed books make great gifts!

What would I do without my best bud at my signing? I'd be lost!

Here's a great guy with a funny side. This is the serious pose...

Now here is where he lets his excitement out. It's so funny I am caught up in it!

A friend from work. She took her copy on vacation with her. Smart lady, eh?

Now this is truly supportive. My own pastor came to get autographs, too. Aw!

Snagged this reader on his way to the pub, as in where you get drinks--not books. He'll like my story. It's very guy friendly, and as you can see, lots of guys are reading it. Whoo hoo!

Videos of me from the Mall of America book signing event

An interview of me at the Mall of America for the 125 author booksigning event. It's kind of lame, but Angie (the gal recording) was cracking me up. Enjoy!

Here is a video of me just autographing a book. I like this one better. :)

Less than Dead by Tim Downs is up on CFBA!

This week, the

Christian Fiction Blog Alliance

Less Than Dead

Thomas Nelson (September 9, 2008)

by

Tim Downs

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Tim Downs is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Indiana University. After graduation in 1976 he created a comic strip, Downstown, which was syndicated by Universal Press Syndicate until 1986. His cartooning has appeared in more than a hundred major newspapers worldwide.

His first book, a work of non-fiction, was awarded the Gold Medallion Award in 2000. His first novel, Shoofly Pie, was awarded the Angel Award in 2004, and his third novel, PlagueMaker, was awarded the Christy Award for best suspense novel of 2007. First The Dead, the third book in this Bug Man series came out earlier this year.

Tim lives in Cary, North Carolina, with his wife Joy.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Some secrets just won't stay buried.
When strange bones surface on a U.S. senator's property, the FBI enlists forensic entomologist Nick Polchak to investigate the forgotten graveyard. Polchak's orders are simple: figure out the mess.

But Polchak, known as the "Bug Man" because of his knowledge of insects and their interaction with the dead, senses darker secrets buried beneath the soil.

Secrets that could derail the senator's presidential bid.

Secrets buried in the history of a quaint Virginia town.

Secrets someone is willing to kill to protect.

With the help of a mysterious local woman named Alena and her uncanny cadaver dogs, Polchak sets out to dig up the truth.

But with a desperate killer hot on his trail, he'll be lucky to wind up anything less than dead.

If you would like to read the first chapter of Less Than Dead, go HERE

My thoughts:

Interesting so far, but a tad on the grody side for someone who has a bit of a week stomach (like me). All that talk about skeletons, flies, etc. gives me the creepies.

Heart Chocolate posted a spotlight on It's Not About Me

Heart Chocolate: It's Not About Me

Now I'm giving away Rachel's Secret by BJ Hoff

To enter your name to win a copy of this book simply post a comment telling me why you want it. Be creative! And if you can't think of something interesting tell me whether or not you think there are too many Amish stories out there, or not enough. :)

About the book:

Bestselling author BJ Hoff promises to delight her many faithful readers with her compelling new series, The Riverhaven Years. With the first book, Rachel's Secret, Hoff introduces a new community of unforgettable characters and adds the elements readers have come to expect from her novels: a tender love story, the faith journeys of people we grow to know and love, and enough suspense to keep the pages turning quickly.

When the wounded Irish American riverboat captain, Jeremiah Gant, bursts into the rural Amish setting of Riverhaven, he brings chaos and conflict to the community—especially for young widow, Rachel Brenneman. The unwelcome "outsider" needs a safe place to recuperate before continuing his secret role as an Underground Railroad conductor. Neither he nor Rachel is prepared for the forbidden love that threatens to endanger a man's mission, a woman's heart, and a way of life for an entire people.

My thoughts:

I don't have this book, but I love BJ Hoff and haven't found a story she has written that I haven't thoroughly enjoyed!

ABOUT THE BOOK

LaTisha Barnhart’s bunions tell her something’s afoot as she delves deeper into the murder of her former employee, Marion Peters. When LaTisha becomes a suspect, the ante is upped, and she is determined to clear her name and find the culprit.

She’s burping Mark Hamm’s bad cooking to investigate his beef with Marion. . .getting her hair styled at a high falutin’ beauty parlor to see what has Regina Rogane in a snarl. . .playing self-appointed matchmaker between the local chief and a prime suspect. . .and thinking Payton O’Mahney’s music store lease might be the reason he’s singing out of tune when discussion of Marion’s murder arises. LaTisha’s thinking she just might use the reward money to get her bunions surgically removed. But she’s got to catch the crook first.

Small town intrigue, a delightful, vivid cast, and a well-crafted mystery make S. Dionne Moore’s debut novel a must-read! I loved it!~Susan May Warren~Award-winning author of Reclaiming Nick

The perils of "no" flight when your plane is canceled.

Well, there is a first time for everything. I have never had a flight canceled before. I am always warned ahead of time of changes. I travel more than most people, so what happened this time? Priceline happened. They have lost my business forever. They failed to tell me my flight was canceled! Online it still showed as a "good" flight. SO there I am in the airport with my family wondering why the line is missing. You know, the one you see before every flight? It was dead there. I found out why. They canceled the flight about a month ago.

The problem was we already returned the rental car and had nowhere to go. So we sat in the airport for about five hours waiting for the next flight. But that wasn't until after the ginormous headache we went through. The airline shall remain nameless, but after realizing the mistake the employees were very helpful. They obviously felt sorry for us. The soonest we could get home was Monday morning. Here it is on a Saturday afternoon. We had brought no more supplies, meds, or anything and then are told it'll be two more days before they can get us home? No can do. My hubby and I have jobs and my kiddos have school. So we negotiated for the next best thing...transport to Phoenix.

Problem was that is 200 miles from our home. And the airport in Tucson is where our van was parked! But God bless friends. My family friend Sandy, who I've known for 17 years and who lives in Phoenix, agreed to pick us up from the airport in Phoenix and drive us to Tucson late at night. That's like 125 miles one way! She dropped us off and we were able to load up in the van. But then it wouldn't shift gears and we thought we'd be stranded for sure.

But angels must've pushed that sucker out of the lot because after about ten minutes of revving the engine and crawling at about 30 miles per hour, the gears shifted and it went up to the normal highway speed. By then we were tired, thirsty, and hungry and decided to forego food lest we stall in the drive thru line, plus it was 2 AM before we got home and not much was open. But I'm here today to testify that we did make it home, no thanks to Priceline and many thanks to God and to friends. SO that's my story and I'm sticking to it. :)

Blour tour stop for Love Starts with Elle by Rachel Hauck!

You can win a copy of the book by leaving a comment on Rachel’s blog tour post HERE

About Rachel:

Rachel Hauck is the author of ten, going on eleven novels, and has recently become an "acclaimed" author. (Yeah, funny how that happened. Some dude found her lottery stub stuck to the bottom of his shoe and tried to "acclaim" her. But her husband refused to pay out.)

Since then, she's gone on to become a best selling author of Sweet Caroline. Living in central Florida with her husband of sixteen and a half years, one sweet little dog and one ornery cat, Rachel is a graduate of Ohio State University and a huge Buckeye football fan. One day she hopes to stand on the sidelines next to Coach Tressel as a famed, acclaimed best selling OSU alumni, beloved for her work in literature and letters. (She's written at least a couple hundred letters in her life time.)

Her current release, Love Starts With Elle (July 2008, Thomas Nelson) is set in the South Carolina lowcountry, and earned 4.5 Stars and Top Pick from Romantic Times Book Club.

Look for her next release next spring, The Sweet By and By, the first book in the Born To Fly series with award winning country artist, Sara Evans.

Of the writing journey, Rachel says, "I'm humbled by the amazing things God is doing in my life. I love what I do, and am so privileged to work with Thomas Nelson fiction and am excited to see what God has in store for all of His authors and writers. Just keep praying and writing!"

Visit her blog and website at http://www.rachelhauck.com

About the book:

Elle's living the dream-but is it her dream or his?

Elle loves life in Beaufort, South Carolina-lazy summer days on the sand bar, coastal bonfires, and dinners with friends sharing a lifetime of memories. And she's found her niche as the owner of a successful art gallery too. Life is good.

Then the dynamic pastor of her small town church sweeps her off her feet. She's never known a man like Jeremiah-one who breathes in confidence and exhales all doubt. When he proposes in the setting sunlight, Elle hands him her heart on a silver platter.

But Jeremiah's just accepted a large pastorate in a different state. If she's serious about their relationship, Elle will take "the call," too, leaving behind the people and place she loves so dearly. Elle's friendship with her new tenant, widower Heath McCord, and his young daughter make things even more complicated.

Is love transferrable across the miles? And can you take it with you when you go?

Book signing in Oswego pics with fall leaves and scenic campus shots!

Here is a pic of me at the college bookstore in the new arena the college
had build the year SUNY Oswego won the ice hockey championship!

My first customer. She loves to read and was excited about getting my book.

My long time friend Howard who I've known for 22 years and set up my signings in Oswego. He's the assistant to the college president and an author as well. He's my bud!

Chinese foreign exchange students. They each got a copy of my book. They came from the area in China that was severely damaged in the last earthquake. The SUNY schools took on 150 of the displaced students when their campus was destroyed. Oswego received four of the students. They were very excited to get my book! They spoke English very well. I was impressed!

The back side of the book signing table. I had a lot of fun. Not everyone wanted their picture taken, of course. So this is it. I totally forgot about taking pics at my next book signing. I was nervous about my first reading but we had a nice group of ten people sitting in the circle for my reading and to answer questions. Several kids were from college and several from high school as well as adults. I had all guys in the group and just three women. What a blast! I wish I had remembered pictures! The fresh pressed cider was fabulous! I got the royal treatment.

Here is a pic of the shore of Lake Ontario. It's right on the campus.

Nathan standing with Lake Ontario behind him. It was very windy today!

Another pic of the lake from a different angle.

Another view of the shore of Lake Ontario on the SUNY college campus.

Here is a view of some of the buildings around campus.

A picture of my old dormitory building. I miss those days.

Here is a pic of the Lagoon on the other side of the dorm I used to live in.

Another view of the Lagoon. They have a memorial to people killed in NYC during 9-11 here at the lagoon. I didn't have time to get a picture.

A pretty scene of the campus. Just some fall foilage.

Another view of a different part of the campus.

The art building. I love the glass mural of the seagulls.

One more view of the campus before we left. This is a different view of the lagoon.

Here is a view of the riverfront that flows into Lake Ontario. This is in downtown Oswego a few blocks away from the River's End book store where I had my booksigning tonight.

Another waterfront picture.

Hubby looking at the river by the waterfront. We had a wonderful day!
