About the book:
A dusty carved box containing two locks of hair and a century-old letter regarding property in Switzerland, and a burning desire to learn about her biological family lead nurse-midwife Lexie Jaeger from her home in Oregon to the heart of Pennsylvania Amish country. There she meets Marta Bayer, a mysterious lay-midwife who desperately needs help after an Amish client and her baby die.
Lexie steps in to assume Marta’s patient load even as she continues the search for her birth family, and from her patients she learns the true meaning of the Pennsylvania Dutch worddemut, which means “to let be” as she changes from a woman who wants to control everything to a woman who depends on God.
A compelling story about a search for identity and the ability to trust that God securely holds our whole life—past, present, and future.
My thoughts:
I don't have this book but I have enjoyed books I've read by Mindy Starns Clark in the past.

I have known several women to use a midwife. I also know several midwives! Guess that comes with the nursing territory.
I've had this one on my wish list for quite some time!

I don't know anyone who has used a midwife, but I remember my grandma talking about those who did. I've always enjoyed books that have people who use midwives.

Yes, years ago. Unfortunately, it didn't turn out well and the baby died. However, they did say it probably would have been the same outcome if they had been in a hospital. Hmm. I still wonder, though, as the equipment needed would have been closer.
Whoops, forgot my email addy.

Wow...that is interesting to me (the above posters).
I gave birth to all my children with a midwife, I am the daughter of a midwife, and a doula myself...= )
I enjoyed this book when I read it, it was interesting to me as my mom is a midwife for the Amish as well.

One of my BFF's gave birth at home with a mid wife and I got to take pictures. It was a wonderful experience for her. This book sounds interesting.

It seems to me that I can remember a conversation with a friend years ago that planned to give birth at home with the help of a midwife. Perhaps it was something I saw on TV...LOL! This book appeals to my reading tastes, I enjoy Amish stories immensely. Thank you for this giveaway and the chance to win. I hope I win.

When I was pregnant I was thinking of having a midwife but my doctor refused to allow me. My son came by a breech delivery with natural child birth. It was very long labor and I would told that it was a difficult one. I would agree. I would love to read this book.

I know several young women who have given birth with the help of a certified midwife, but in the hospital with the doctor on call if anything should come up. It didn't and mamas and babies were fine!:-)

Yes. I know people who have used a midwife. Some have given birth at home while others have had the midwife come to the hospital. Personally, if I ever had children I would rather have a regular team of doctors.
I love Mindy Starns Clark's books. She's one of my favorite authors.
