About the book:

While I have never lost a family member in the military, I am friends with people who have. The loss extends to friends as well, who are there to support the family left behind. My heart is with all the military and their family, as they sacrifice so much all the time. I would love to read this book as well, and thank you for the chance to win!
My mother worked at one of the naval stations during World War II and she knew many young men who died, including at Pearl Harbor.

I've had loved ones who have served our country in war time but not one who was lost. My brother-in-law was a bomber pilot and was shot down but rescued during WWII. I'm so proud of them all.

Thankfully, I have not lost a loved one in the war. However, a friend that was over in Afghanistan recently had to return to the States after suffering major injuries in an explosion. He is now slowly but surely on his way to a full recovery.

Would love to read this book. I have not lost a loved one in a war but my father served in the Army (he served in the more current conflicts like Panama and Desert Storm). I was in the Army (no wars). I married a man in the Army who served in Panama and Desert Storm. His father was in Korea. I know I have older relatives who also served in the Army and one (at least) in the Navy. So we have a history of military service but no losses in war that I'm aware of.

I have 2 stories very similar. I had a cousin I never knew but they said when he had to go the next day, he walked all thru the house and looked over every room but never came home again. His body was never found but thought he fell off a boat. I am not sure if it was WWI or II. Then during the Viet Nam war, I had a very good friend who drove all over town and looked it over. I drove with him and he said, I'll never be back. Of course I told him to quit talking silly. He stepped on a land mine and blew up. So sad.... he was a good friend and died bravely, I know. I'd love to have this book; it looks wonderful. Thanks!

l had 3 big brothes in vietnam, and a sister in law too... thank goodness they all came home safe and sound! and so far out of all the friends l know in lraq, they too have all come back safe! Percy... you know l would love to read this one!!!

Personally, I have not lost a close loved one in a war; however my best friend's husband was captured in Vietnam and reportedly died in a prison camp from dysentery. We were both wives of career military officers. What was even more sorrowful about his capture is that my husband and I were watching the evening news, and his capture was recorded by a news reporter. That was a terrible shock for my friend to see that piece being broadcast on the evening news. I was in touch with her immediately, and was told that she was handling things the best she could and that the news station had informed her they would send her the tape. Real life is much stranger and more diabolical than fiction could ever be. I enjoy historical fiction and thank you for the chance to win this book.

Being the wife of a military career officer, I've experienced the anxiety and constant prayers for my husband who served twice in the Vietnam war. Two whole years that he was gone, and the children and I had to manage life knowing that anytime a phone call or seeing a man in uniform ringing the doorbell might be news we never wanted to hear. Communication was lacking because sometimes it would take longer than usual for letters to arrive at home...or on the war zone where my husband was serving. It can be a tense situation, but we had to have faith and keep on keeping on as usual at home. One never really gets accommodated to this kind of existing when the family is apart and we know it's only temporary...we hope. I'm proud of my family and my husband during the absences. It can be considered a sacrifice, but one that is required of military families. We all trust in God in our household. It's not easy, but a true learning experience in patience and growth for all.

I haven't lost one of my immediate family members. My brother currently serves in the Army and just came home from Iraq, my dad served in the Army and the Vietnam War and youngest son is the the Army National Guard. However, I am a Blue Star Mother and in the past few months we have layed to rest 4 of our sons. The pain and the agony that these families go through is beyond imaginable. The honor and the hero that they are for standing up for our country is amazing! One that we will have a memorial service for on saturday was a young man who jumped in a river in Afghanistan to save an Afghan police officer who had fallen into the river. As you get through the story your realize that this young man jumped in to save not a comrade or an american but the enemy and he didn't know how to swim. He jumped in to save him out of reaction and out the right thing to do. Thank you to all our troops who serve our country. May they all come home safely. May we all give them the respect that they deserve.

My two sons were in the military during the early days of the Iraq war. Their being deployed was always present in my mind. Fortunately, neither of them were deployed to the war. I did have a great uncle who served during WWII as well as my father-in-law served during WWII. I am thankful for those who do fight for our freedom. I would love to win this book.
