Now I'm giving away The Way to A Man's Heart by Mary Ellis!

To enter for a chance to win this book simply post a comment that answers this question... Have you ever met someone you really cared about only to discover after you had feelings for them that they had a troubled past? Did you worry that they might return to whatever it was they had done? I will go first.

I found out after I was married that my ex-husband had been severely abused as a child. He was afraid to have kids because he worried he would abuse them. We divorced in 1988 and I can't help thinking that it was God's way of protecting me and my future children. I wish I had known beforehand that he was a potential abuser. I also discovered that he had cheated on me a number of times after we married (hence the eventual divorce). So how is that for transparency? My 20th wedding anniversary to my current husband is next month. Thankfully I only have two children and they are both by my current husband. They turned out fine. I can't help wondering how different things would have been had I stayed with husband #1.

Now it's your turn. I will pick a winner using the Randomizer program next Sunday, July 11, 2010.

The Way to a Man's Heart (The Miller Family Series)

About the book:

Leah Miller is living her dream come true as she invests in a newly restored diner that caters to locals rather than tourists. Can Jonah Byler convince this shy, quiet young woman that she should leave her adoring fans and cook only for him?

Leah’s sister, Emma, is trying to adapt to married life as New Order Amish along with her husband, James, who gave up his Englischer ways to make Emma his bride. Will his commitment to Emma and to God stand firm when temptations from his past come to call?

Ellis offers readers another captivating novel filled with strong characters and a loving look at how faith in God and connection with family can fill to overflowing an open, waiting heart.

My thoughts:

I haven't reviewed this book.

Both my husband and i came from dysfunctional families / divorced parents. There was also alcoholism on his side. but I guess that doesn't really count because it wasn't something we discovered later. I think it helped us to relate to one another but also to make choices and changes for a better life for ourselves and our kids.

yep! my hubby. Didn't know the true extent until after we were married. His past was before he was saved. I didn't meet him until after he was saved

I can't say this has ever happened to me in a romantic sense. For me if I'm getting to know someone though I think it would make a difference if the past was before they knew Christ. We are all new creations, even though we have to struggle with things of the past we can be overcomers.

Many people have troubled pasts and often times you won't learn about it until you are more involved with them. Thanks.

My husband was the first guy I seriously dated, so I didn't have that experience, Michelle. I was kind of infatuated with a boy in college who had some problems in his background, but this wasn't God's plan for me, so nothing came of it.

I'd love to read Mary's book and appreciate the chance to win a copy.

My fist love as an adult found me with a man who was wild and never given much love growing up. He would say that he didn't deserve me and
then began to do all he could to
hurt me...It took quite awhile to
get over him; believe it or not!
Thanks, Cindi

Before I was saved I had this one boyfriend that used to cheat on me.

He did it in his previous relationships but then I did not know. I only knew after.

I thank God that removed all the unwanted things and people in my life and saved me and now if I were to consider a relationship with a man , it will be based on his relationship with Jesus.

I haven't known any abused children but I have a cousin that has an abusive husband and after years of abuse, she has left him and is getting a divorce. i am so proud that she is now standing up and trying to better her life.
