I started reading Then Came Faith by Louise Gouge last night and so far it's great. Of course, I love historicals and Civil War era anyway, so that's a given that I'd like the content. Plus, Louise is a fabulous writer. She touches on a not-often delved into portion of history. She pulls you into the mindset of the reconstruction period in the deep south after the Civil War. That is one of the things that makes this story unique. Funny how this came up recently in comments on the ACFW loop about Southern culture and how some people are still stuck in the "damnyankee" mindset. One of the intriguing aspects of this story is that Andre, the son of a southern man who was hung for something he didn't do, is also a Christian bent on revenge, or so the residents of New Orleans believe by page 51. That's where I'm at in the story right now, so things could change.
I'm starting my giveaway for this book today and will draw a name from the good old hat this weekend. What have you got to lose? If you love historical fiction, you'll want to enter this one. :) Just post a comment here or on any post this week where I mention the book and say you want to enter the contest. I would love to review this book too......put me in for the draw!!!!
I do enjoy historical fiction and would love this to be my first read by Louise Gouge! I read what she wrote to the ACFW loop about including a lot of historical info in her books...that is part of what I love about reading historicals. Not so much the "facts" but the ways they did things, the everyday happenings that have been lost over time. Plus, I haven't read anything much on the reconstruction era following the Civil War. I love Michael Phillip's series on the Carolina Cousins though!
Thanks for the opportunity to enter in the drawing!
I would like to be entered in the contest. I have not read Louise's work, but would look forward to doing so.
