Unlocking the past could open the door to a new future. Ever since her parents died of yellow fever when she was two years old, Adelaide LeClerc has lived with her grandparents, who rarely speak of their son and his wife. They are on the verge of negotiating a contract with a suitor, a man Adelaide dreads, when they discover that she enjoys the company of Etienne Girod, a young Creole man. Adelaide's future hangs in the balance as her grandparents consider whether to stop keeping secrets and reveal the truth that they've known since before Adelaide's birth, a truth that will make the difference between a life of obligation and a life of choice for Adelaide.
My thoughts:
I thought I would have this book to review before the giveaway, but I don't have it yet. Bummer. I've read all of Christa's other books, however, and I have enjoyed them all so far.
To enter for a chance to win this book simply post a comment about what you think about arranged marriages in the past and not being given the choice to marry the man you love if that man is not someone your family wants you to be with. I'll pick a winner next Sunday using the Randomizer program.

I think it sad when people don't get a choice in their future mate.
On the other hand, I think sometimes we get swept away in the "feeling" of being in love, and those around us, especially friends and family, can see logically and perhaps make a better choice in a mate.

I would hate if I had an arranged marriage (though it'd cut down on the stress of finding a guy) but they make for some really good stories!
I would not want to be married to a man that I did not live and would not want my daughters to have to marry someone that they did not love. But I love hearing about marriages that were arranged and did turn out for the good. both parties really truly falling in love.

I think arranged marriages are wrong. I think you should be able to choose who you want to marry. If you make a misstake then you learn from your misstakes. You need to be able to make your own choices. Please enter me in contest. Tore923@aol.com
I don't like the idea of arranged marriages. I think a person should be able to choose for them self who they are going to spend the rest of their life with. Thanks for the chance to win.

I really would have liked to choose, and really thought it fair about arranged marriages.

I think it would horrible to marry someone you did not love.I would want to marry the man I love as opposed to someone I did not love
I think arranged marriage has a place and worked for so many years--and still does in some cultures--because it has been successful.
Still, in at least some today's arranged marriages, from what I understand, either party has the right to say no. Choice is important and I think families have to find a way to honor that.
I have an arranged marriage!! I was single and taking zither lessons and my music teacher introduced me to his student who was taking gao hu lessons. Never one of us wanted to meet each other but my teacher went ahead and threw us together. He thought we were a match!
Not so bad!!!

I would be angry if I didn't have a choice of who to marry, but with the divorce rate as high as it is it might be more successful!
I know people who are still having arranged marriages. It's part of their culture and who they are, and it has it's place in that arena. I don't think I personally could have one, but I wasn't raised in that culture.

I know someone who has been married for 30yrs that is in an arranged marriage. She is very happy and in love. She met her husband at the altar. The next day she was in a brand new country (US). Sounds scary to us but that is there culture and it works and there is rarely any divorce.

Arranged marriages to me, would be so frightening! I mean you don't know if the man is kind, if he's a wife beater, or a cheater...the whole idea to me is just awful. On the other hand, I love reading books about arranged marriages, b/c they almost always end up happily ever after. :)
I would love to win this book and thank you for the opportunity!

Wow what a chance to make a comment on this subject. I have some mix feelings, I was not involved in a prearranged marriage, but I was raised very strict, and was told that I was to marry within our own kind. Not to be unequaled yoked... When I meet my hubby, he had been married before and that was a big no no... but When God Buts two people together then past don't matter.. 30yrs of marriage so far proves it to me.. and will go till death does us part...
so.. Depend on who is arranging the marriage...
I can't imagine being in an arranged marriage, I sure would have been praying for a terrific match!
