Now I'm giving away Valley of the Shadow by Tom Pawlik

To enter to win a copy of this book simply post a comment about whether you've gone through the valley or not. Did you ever feel like things had gotten so bad that you couldn't walk through a more painful valley or darker place, but in the end you learned the truth about something that made it worth the trial? I'll pick a winner next Sunday, August 8th.

I'll also go first. I did go through a dark valley in 2006. I'll say on record it was the most painful year of my life. No need to say why, but one thing I did learn from that experience is how much God loves me and how much pride hurts the soul. I have learned not to say "I'd never do that" the hard way. God showed me just how weak I could be if given the right circumstances. Anyway, God has richly blessed me and as the scriptures say He binds up those He wounds. I felt the healing He brought to my soul in a powerful way, and I will always remember His deep and everlasting love for me through it all. Anyone else want to share?

About the book:

Conner fought his way through the woods. Tendrils of mist curled around his legs like serpents seeking to pull him to the ground. But he had to keep going.

He had been here before.

He heard no voices this time. No ghostly whispers from the dark, save one. One single, moaning plea.

Help me!

A shadowy world between life and death, where your worst fears can become reality.
One man lingers on the threshold.

Another has escaped, but he didn't come back alone.

And a third searches for answers as his nightmares draw him back.

Sometimes, to get to the truth, you have to walk through the valley.

My thoughts:

Oh boy, doesn't this sound great?!?! I don't have the book (wah!) so I can't say that it's good. My husband loved the first book so if this one is even half as good it's another winner. :)

I am currently in a valley. A lifelong battle of a sinful habit, money problems, concern for a friend, and the list goes on. Life looks hopeless at times, but trying to find God among it all

I went through a valley just after my second daughter was born. A culmination of many different things that all crashed together at one point and made for a very challenging, desperate and low year of my life. I am still learning from that time a few years later and I can see where my character has been strengthened from it.

The book sounds good!

Thank you for the entry.

This is a difficult topic. As we have all come to a valley I'm sure. I have, and without going into mass detail, it made me a stronger, a more sensitive and compassionate person. I think we need valleys to etch our own pathways in life. They make us who we are.

I, too, feel like I'm in a valley of physical ailments, one after another. Seems like no end. Don't understand the reason for it all. It's certainly not how I planned my life. Books keep me sane through it all. That and trusting I'm learning all I need to from the Lord in the midst of it all. Maybe it's the only way I'll sit still long enough to listen, as I tend to be a workaholic otherwise.

The last few years have been a valley of sorts becoming a single mom of 4 for reasons that aren't pleasant. This past Spring was the lowest point though: huge issues w/ my 16yr old daughter, my 18yr old going to her 1st dance (senior prom) which was also her first time out with a boy, graduating, grad party, and my 16 yr old moving in w/ some very good friends of mine who are just down the road from me.

To top that off I started working 2 more days a week. I felt like I was failing everyone. I haven't been that depressed since h.s. and that was over 20 yrs ago. I'm still taking baby steps back (if I'm actually even moving) and my relationship with the Lord isn't where it should be...obviously because of me.

I'd like to be out of this valley for sure, but feel like I've decided to just rest my forehead on the cliff wall, sigh a big sigh, and slump to the ground ready to stay for a while. Sometimes the climb seems too much.

I have been through the valley of depression several times in my life. Why those are hard times they are when I see the Lord the clearest because of the desperation going through the valley causes. enter me in the drawing spowell01(at)bellsouth(dot)net

I went through a valley when my grandson was born four months premature. He only weighed 1 pound, 10 ounces and it was a frightening time for the entire family. Today, he's an (overly) rambunctious 5 year old and healthy as a horse!

I feel like I am going through a valley right now. Hubby and I have started doing marriage counseling and are starting a life group on marriages as well as getting involved in other things. Along comes serious health issues with hubby facing major surgery for tumor on the Pancreas as well as the challenges that he already has and me going through some things.

Blessings,
Jo

Thanks for the chance to enter.

Oddly, I don't mind the dark times. I've had some nasty ones, but once I get through them there is SO much more peace and SO much more growth that I wouldn't change a single thing :)

We all go through valleys and with God's help climb up the hills again. I've been through my own, and I thank God for bringing me out on the other side.

I am so fortunate not to have had many bad times in my life at all. But I did feel myself enter the Valley the day my husband was laid off from his job. Luckily he found another better job soon after & I learned that sometimes what seems to be bad is actually just a chance to let the much better in!

I went through an almost year long valley. I had two people within the ministry I was leading that were speaking against me to the pastor. I felt unfairly persecuted to the point that every time I went to a meeting with pastor I was physically ill as I approached to the church office. It was a year of praying, "Lord you know my heart..." and reading through the Psalms but God honored my faithfulness. (Sorry so long)
This sounds like a really good book.

We are going through a valley right now with health challenges. We have started doing marriage counseling and are starting a life group on marriages. Both hubby and my health is being challenged. He has a lot of health challenges to start with M.S, Osteoarthritis, Diabetes and Neuropathy and now they have found a tumor on his Pancreas. Thank G-d for a wonderful and supportive church.

Blessings,
